The question I carried into this week’s podcast episode was this: Is there a common skill or mindset present in people who consider themselves to be decisive that those of us who are more indecisive lack? If so, can we learn to cultivate it?

I’m pleased to report that yes, there is a common mindset among decisive people and also yes, I think we can learn to cultivate it.

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to the episode (which you can do right here, by the way) here’s the gist.

I asked on Instagram if you consider yourself to be decisive, yes or no. Here are the results of that poll:

I have deep compassion for the 67%.

This is the reader I identify with most and who I had in mind when I started The Next Right Thing podcast.

So while I wouldn’t say I am a naturally decisive person, I do think I’ve learned to become more decisive. I know what’s helped me, but I was curious to see if my own insights held up when compared to the insight of others.

The follow up question I asked the decisive people was this:

If you answered YES, what contributes the most to your ability to be decisive?

I was curious about the answers and assumed most of them wouldn’t be surprising. But what I didn’t expect was how deeply encouraged I would personally feel after reading them. Here’s what they said.
